Infrastructure used to require dashboards. Now it can respond to plain English.
Think about how cloud infrastructure management works today. You want to check if your AWS EC2 instance is running — you open a dashboard, navigate to the right region, find the instance. You want to scale up your database — you remember the CLI syntax, run the command, check the output. You want to deploy a new service — you write the Terraform, run the pipeline, watch the logs.
All of that is programmable. AWS, GCP, Azure, DigitalOcean, and every modern cloud platform exposes APIs for every single operation you can do through a dashboard. This is what made Infrastructure as Code possible — tools like Terraform and Pulumi replaced clicking through dashboards with writing configuration files.
AI agents are about to do to infrastructure management what IaC did to manual dashboards. Instead of writing Terraform or remembering CLI flags, you ask an agent: "Check if the production database CPU is above 80% and scale up if it is." The agent calls the cloud API, reads the metric, makes a decision, and executes the scaling operation. Conversational infrastructure — and it's closer than most developers realize.
