AI Features & Data Usage
TamilTech uses AI-powered features that process your data:
- Personalized Feed: Your reading history is analyzed to recommend relevant articles. This data stays on our servers and is never shared with third parties.
- AI Chat & Summaries: Article summaries and article Q&A are processed by AI providers using the article text. In Messages, when someone asks TamilTech AI, the recent messages of that chat are also sent (see "Messages, Groups and Contacts" below).
- Text-to-Speech: Article content is sent to TTS providers for audio generation. No personal data is included.
- Push Notifications: We use your reading patterns to send personalized push notifications. You can disable this in Settings.
You can request deletion of all your AI-related data by contacting [email protected].
Mobile Application (Android / iOS)
This section applies when you use the TamilTech mobile app (package name on Android: in.tamiltech.app). It supplements the rest of this Privacy Policy.
Information We Collect in the App
- Account information: If you register or sign in (email or Google), we process identifiers such as name, email address, and profile image if you provide one.
- Usage and reading activity: Articles you open, bookmarks, offline saves, search actions, feature usage, and similar interaction data to operate and improve the app, and—when enabled—to personalize content.
- Device information: Device type, operating system version, app version, language settings, and similar technical data.
- Push notification token: If you enable notifications, we store a device token to deliver breaking news or digests according to your preferences.
- Purchases: If you buy Premium or AI credit packs, the payment is processed by Razorpay (our payment provider), in the app and on the website. Your card, UPI or bank details are entered in Razorpay's secure checkout and are not stored by TamilTech. We keep the order and payment record (amount, date, payment method type, payment ID and invoice) to unlock what you bought, for refunds and support, and as tax law requires.
- User-generated content: Comments, community tips, forum posts, or other content you choose to submit.
- Optional media inputs: Profile photos you upload; photos and voice notes you send in chats (stored encrypted and shown only to the people in that chat); voice input if you use speech/voice search features (processed via device/OS speech services as applicable).
- Phone number and contacts (optional): If you add your phone number or allow contact sync for Messages, your number is verified and stored, and the phone numbers in your address book are turned into one-way hashes so we can show which of your contacts use TamilTech. The names from your address book are stored encrypted. You can remove synced contacts at any time (Settings → Remove my contacts).
- Diagnostics: Crash and performance logs to fix bugs (for example via error-monitoring tools).
Advertising
The free version of the app may show ads served by Google AdMob (and related Google advertising services). These services may use device identifiers and similar data as described in Google’s policies. You can limit ad personalization through your device/Google account settings where available. Premium features, when purchased, may reduce or remove ads as described in the app.
Analytics
We use analytics tools (such as Google Firebase Analytics) to understand aggregate app usage, feature performance, and stability.
Authentication
If you use Google Sign-In, Google authenticates you and shares basic profile information with us according to your Google account permissions.
AI-Powered Features
Optional AI features (for example summaries, chat-style helpers, recommendations, or text-to-speech) may send the minimum content needed for the feature (such as article text or your prompt) to AI service providers to generate a response. Do not submit sensitive personal data into AI prompts. Limits and availability may vary by plan. You may contact us to request deletion of AI-related data associated with your account where applicable.
Messages, Groups and Contacts
- Contacts (optional): If you allow it, the app turns each phone number in your phone book into a code on your phone and sends only that code and the saved name to our server, to show which of your contacts use TamilTech (older app versions send the number, which our server immediately turns into the same code). The code cannot be turned back into the number, and the names are stored encrypted so you can see who is who. This is used only to find people you know on TamilTech. It is not shared or sold, and we do not message your contacts.
- Messages: One-to-one and group messages you send are stored on our servers so they can be delivered and shown on your devices. Message text is encrypted in storage. TamilTech can access messages only where needed to run the service, to act on a report of abuse, or to comply with the law.
- Ask TamilTech in a chat: When someone in a chat or a group asks TamilTech AI a question, the recent messages of that chat and the question are sent to our AI service provider to write the answer, which is posted in the same chat. Messages in other chats are not sent.
- Safety: You can block a person, leave or mute a group, and report a chat or a message. A report shares the reported content with the TamilTech team.
- Removing contacts: You can remove your synced contacts at any time from the Messages menu or from Settings in the app ("Remove my contacts").
- Deleting your account: When you delete your account, you are removed from TamilTech straight away: other people can no longer find you, you leave every group, your synced contacts are deleted, and your messages and photos show as deleted to others. Where Indian law requires it (for example, the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021), we keep an encrypted copy of your registration details and messages for 180 days after deletion, for audits and lawful requests from authorities; only an authorised administrator can open it, every access is recorded, and it is then erased automatically (unless a legal hold applies to an open investigation). You can delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete my account) or by writing to [email protected].
Deep Links and Sharing
If you open shared article links, we may process standard campaign parameters (for example UTM tags or referral codes) to understand how the app was opened and to operate referral features when you choose to use them.
Children
The TamilTech app is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Messages and groups are only for people aged 18 or older: the app asks adults to confirm their age, and accounts that told us they are school students cannot use Messages and are not shown to others there. If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
