The AI war that actually matters to you
ChatGPT and Claude are the two AI tools that most Indian professionals, students, and developers are actively choosing between right now. Gemini is in the mix, but when it comes to actual daily work — writing, coding, research, problem-solving — the real competition is OpenAI vs Anthropic.
Both tools have leveled up significantly in 2026. ChatGPT is running on GPT-5.2 and GPT-5.4 depending on the tier. Claude is on Claude Opus 4.6 at the top end. Both are genuinely impressive. The question isn't "is one of them good" — it's "which one is better for what I'm actually trying to do?"
We ran both through seven real-world scenarios that Indian users actually encounter — not abstract academic benchmarks, but the kind of tasks you'd actually sit down and use AI for in a workday.
Test 1: Writing a professional email in context
Task: Write a formal follow-up email after a job interview at an Indian IT company, referencing specific things discussed in the interview, maintaining a professional but warm tone.
ChatGPT produced a clean, well-structured email quickly. It hit all the standard beats — thank you, reiterate interest, mention something specific, close professionally. It was good. It was also slightly generic. If you gave this task to ten different users and didn't tell them the source, they'd probably say "this looks AI-written."
