If your phone has yelled "storage full" in the middle of a BGMI update, KRAFTON just put a date on the version that is supposed to fix that. Moneycontrol, published 4 November 2026 at 14:52 IST, says KRAFTON India will launch BGMI Air in India on 10 December 2026. It is a lighter build of Battlegrounds Mobile India. Ahead of that launch it has crossed 14 million pre-registrations on Google Play.
Fourteen million is not fourteen million people already dropping into a match. A pre-registration is a hand raised on the store page. It is a notification request, not a download, not a daily player, not proof the game is good. It does mean a very large Indian audience already knows the name and tapped the button. For a mobile game that is not even public yet, that is the number friends will quote in the group chat tonight.
What 10 December actually is
The public date is 10 December 2026, and Moneycontrol is explicit that the launch is in India. There is no other country window in this story, no time of day, and no "global rollout an hour later" line. If you are sitting in Chennai or Lucknow, 10 December is the day KRAFTON has named. Until the Play Store listing flips from pre-register to install, the date is a promise, not a file on your phone.
Before that, there is a closed beta. KRAFTON will run it from 20 November to 24 November in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata. Selected players get early access and can send feedback so the studio can adjust the game before everyone else gets it. Five days, three cities. That is a test, not a soft launch. If you are in Coimbatore or Jaipur, this window is not your install day.
The way in is public, and it is competitive. Post a video saying why you should be among the first to play BGMI Air. Tag the game's official Instagram handle. Then submit the application through the form linked in the bio of the official BGMI Air and BGMI Instagram accounts. KRAFTON picks from those submissions. Moneycontrol does not print the handle, the number of slots, or a promise that a funny reel gets you in. A video is an application. It is not a ticket.
About 1GB, and why that number is the product
BGMI Air is built for phones that cannot comfortably carry the full game. Moneycontrol says it is for players whose devices have limited storage, or hardware that may not run the full BGMI experience. The initial download is approximately 1GB. The core gameplay of BGMI is what KRAFTON says it is keeping.
"Approximately 1GB" and "initial" both matter. This is the first download, not a lifetime cap. Day-one patches, maps and events can grow a game after the store page looked small. KRAFTON has not said the install will stay near 1GB in January. Plan for the first install being small enough for a 64GB phone that is already full of photos, WhatsApp and one other game. Do not plan as if 1GB is a contract.
On a lot of Indian phones, that is still the difference between playing and uninstalling something else. A full battle-royale client plus the update that lands before a weekend tournament is how a Redmi or a Realme with a tired storage chip ends up deleting lecture PDFs. Air is KRAFTON admitting that phone exists, and that the player on it still wants the same loop: land, loot, shoot, leave. The article does not list which chips, how much RAM, or which Android version qualifies. "May not support the full BGMI experience" is the studio's line. Your settings screen is the test they have not published.
It is a second app. Your login is not a migration project
Air will be its own application. You can install it and play it without the existing BGMI app sitting next to it. That is the point for the phone that only has room for one of them. If you already play BGMI, Moneycontrol says you will not need to transfer your account to access Air. Read that sentence narrowly. It says access does not require an account-transfer step. It does not say your rank, crates, weapon skins or friends list copy across. KRAFTON has not published that. Until it does, do not wipe the main app because a reel told you progress moves for free.
Keeping both is a storage choice, not a loyalty test. If the full game already fits and your squad plays there every night, Air is optional until someone you actually play with moves. If the full game is the reason your camera roll is backing up to a laptop, Air is the client KRAFTON built for that complaint. The story does not say the two share a lobby. Do not assume you can queue with a friend who is on the other app.
What KRAFTON has not said yet
This is the short list, and it is the part that should slow the hype. KRAFTON has not shared further details on features, supported devices or system requirements. It has said additional pre-launch information and rewards will come through BGMI Air's official social channels before 10 December. "Rewards" in that sentence is a future post, not a code you can redeem tonight.
So the confirmed grid is small enough to memorise:
| What | When / how |
|---|---|
| Public launch in India | 10 December 2026 |
| Pre-registrations | Over 14 million on Google Play |
| Closed beta | 20–24 November, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata |
| First download | About 1GB |
| App | Separate from BGMI. No account transfer needed to open it |
| Not announced | Feature list, supported phones, system requirements, reward details |
What I would do before 20 November
If you want the launch ping, pre-register on Google Play and then forget it until December. That tap is the whole 14 million. It does not install 1GB today.
Only make the beta video if you can actually be in Mumbai, Delhi or Kolkata from 20 to 24 November, and if you are fine being told no. The test is in those cities. A reel from Madurai does not move the server. Tag the official handle the bio belongs to, use the form in that bio, and skip the pages that promise "guaranteed beta access" in exchange for a login. KRAFTON's path is the Instagram form. Anything asking for your BGMI password is not this announcement.
Leave the main app installed until you have played Air yourself. The no-transfer line is about access, not about your locker. And do not buy a new phone for a game whose supported-device list is still a blank. Approximately 1GB tells you the first download is small. It does not tell you that a five-year-old chip will hold the frame rate.
Why this is the Indian BGMI argument, not a side mode
BGMI's audience was always split between the phone that can take every update and the phone that cannot. College Wi-Fi, a Jio line that crawls at 11 pm, and a handset shared with a sibling are the actual install conditions. A 1GB first download is KRAFTON talking to that second group without asking them to abandon the game they already know. The risk is the usual one with "lite" editions. Core gameplay can mean the shooting feels right while the maps, events and ranked grind that your squad cares about stay on the heavy app. KRAFTON has not drawn that line yet. The beta in three cities is where selected players get to draw it for them, in five days, before 10 December.
Fourteen million pre-registrations say the curiosity is already there. The launch date says the curiosity has a deadline. The 1GB says who the deadline is for. Everything else, including whether Air is the game you keep or the game you delete after one weekend, is still unannounced.
