The startup map of India is about to get redrawn
When most people think about Indian startups, they think Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi NCR. The VCs are there. The talent is there. The infrastructure is there. That's where the game has been played for the last two decades.
But Panneerselvam Madanagopal, the CEO of MeitY Startup Hub — the government body under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology that drives India's startup ecosystem development — is saying the next chapter is being written elsewhere. At the NextGen Startup Summit hosted in Jaipur, he told an audience of founders, investors, and policymakers that Tier II and III cities will be the primary driver of India's next wave of startup growth.
"I have seen the spark and hunger for growth in tier II and III cities... Within a few years, there are going to be hundreds of companies emerging from places like Jaipur and Udaipur," he said.
