Sarvam AI Drops Sarvam-105B: India's Open-Source AI Powerhouse That Rivals DeepSeek and Frontier Models
Bengaluru-based Sarvam AI — India's government-selected sovereign AI lab — has just open-sourced Sarvam-105B, a massive 105-billion parameter Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) language model that is turning heads across the global AI community. Released under the permissive Apache License, this model is not just a milestone for Indian AI — it's a serious competitor to some of the world's most powerful closed and open-source models.
The model was released simultaneously alongside Sarvam-30B, giving developers two tiers of India-built open models to choose from.
What Is Sarvam-105B?
Sarvam-105B is a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) model — meaning it has 105 billion total parameters, but only 10.3 billion parameters are active at any given time during inference. This architecture makes it far more efficient than it appears on paper: you get the reasoning power of a massive model at a fraction of the compute cost.
