Jio’s Rs 15 pack is one day of unlimited 5G, not a new plan

Moneycontrol says Reliance Jio has a Rs 15 pack with 24 hours of unlimited high-speed 5G across every Indian circle. You still need a 5G phone and Jio coverage. Hotspot is allowed. It is a one-day add-on, not a replacement for your monthly plan.

If a cousin just dropped "Jio unlimited 5G, fifteen rupees" in the family group, the useful reply is not a celebration. It is a clock. Moneycontrol, published 4 November 2026 at 17:45 IST, says Reliance Jio has launched a truly unlimited 5G data pack in India at Rs 15. Validity is one day, or 24 hours. During that window eligible subscribers get unlimited high-speed 5G on Jio's True 5G network. After the window, you are back on whatever plan you already pay for.

That is the whole product. It is not a monthly plan, not a student plan, and not a reason to port from Airtel tonight. It is a one-day add-on for the evening the monthly data dies, the match goes to extra time, or the office file will not upload on the cafe Wi-Fi. Fifteen rupees is cheap enough that people will buy it without reading the line under the price. The line under the price is the product.

What "unlimited" is doing in that sentence

Regular data add-ons sell you a fixed bucket, 1GB or 2GB, and then they stop or slow down. Moneycontrol says this pack is different. For its validity it offers unlimited 5G data, not a stated gigabyte cap. The uses the story lists are the heavy ones. High-definition and 4K video. Live sports. Multiplayer mobile games. Uploading large files. Backing a phone up to the cloud. Downloading large games. And mobile hotspot, so a compatible 5G phone can feed a laptop or a tablet for remote work, browsing and video calls.

Hotspot is the line I would not skip. A lot of "unlimited" recharge posters in India quietly exclude tethering, or they count tethered data against a smaller bucket. This article says users can enable hotspot tethering on a compatible 5G smartphone. It does not print a separate hotspot cap. It also does not print a fair-usage ceiling, a speed after a certain number of gigabytes, or a line that says the unlimited offer pauses at midnight even if you recharged at 6 pm. Twenty-four hours is the only duration given. I would treat the timer as starting when the pack activates, and I would not invent a calendar-day reset the story never mentions.

The other limit is physical, and it is the one that will annoy people. Unlimited 5G needs a compatible 5G smartphone and Jio 5G coverage where you are standing. A 4G handset does not become a 5G handset because you paid Rs 15. A village, a basement, or a train cutting through a patch with no True 5G will not grow a tower for the price of a cutting chai. If the phone drops to 4G, this article does not say the pack keeps feeding you unlimited data on the older network. The benefit it describes is unlimited 5G.

Where you can actually buy it

The pack is priced at Rs 15, validity 24 hours, and Moneycontrol says it is available across all telecom circles in India. That is not a metro trial. The recharge routes named are the MyJio app, Jio.com, Reliance Retail outlets, general trade points of sale, third-party recharge platforms, and Jio's enterprise website. So the neighbourhood store that already does recharges is on the list, not only the app.

I would still open MyJio before handing cash across a counter. Third-party recharge apps have sold the wrong pack before, usually a same-price voucher with a different benefit. Ask to see Rs 15, unlimited 5G, 24 hours, on the confirmation screen. If the store's terminal shows a different validity or a fixed data number, that is a different product. Do not let someone talk you into a Rs 19 or Rs 29 "better" pack while calling it the same offer. This story is about one price.

Who this is actually for

The person this fits is easy to picture. Your data quota died on a Thursday night and the Friday office call is on the laptop. A wedding live stream is buffering. A game update is 8GB and the hostel Wi-Fi has given up. You are on Jio, the phone already has 5G, and the bars are there. Fifteen rupees buys you a day of not negotiating with a data counter.

The person this does not fit is also easy. You are on a 4G-only phone. You are in a pocket of the city where Jio 5G still drops. You wanted a cheaper monthly plan and thought Rs 15 was the new base price. It is not. Buying this every day for a month would be Rs 450 with no talk time, no SMS bundle and no rollover described in the story, and you would still need an underlying Jio connection. Nobody in this article says the pack includes calls. It is a data pack.

Work-from-home use is real, with a condition. Hotspot to a laptop is explicitly in the copy, for browsing and video conferencing. That is a backup for a day the broadband blinks, not a new home connection. A full workday of calls plus cloud backups can expose whatever fair-usage rule Jio has not printed here. If the speed falls off, the article gives you no second number to quote at customer care. You would be arguing from a headline.

What I would check before tapping recharge

First, the phone. Settings should already show 5G, not just LTE. Second, the spot. If YouTube is already crawling before you pay, a new pack will not pave the road. Third, the timer. One day means you start it when you need it, not at 9 am "so that it is there" and then waste half of it in a meeting room with Wi-Fi. Fourth, the screen. The confirmation should say unlimited 5G and 24 hours at Rs 15. Screenshot it. Fifteen rupees is not worth a fight, but the wrong pack is how these threads start.

I would not stack three of them in the morning because a reel said the trick works. The story does not say packs queue, overlap, or extend into a 72-hour block. One pack, one day, is the only behaviour described. I also would not promise a sibling on Airtel that the same Rs 15 exists on their SIM. This is a Jio launch. Porting to chase a one-day pack is a bad trade. You lose your current plan's remaining validity for a benefit that expires before the weekend.

The part the forward will get wrong

By tonight the message will have mutated. Someone will write "Jio 5G is Rs 15 now" and drop the 24 hours. Someone else will add "works on all phones" or "includes calls and SMS." Neither is in the Moneycontrol story. The accurate forward is dull, which is why it will lose to the loud one. Rs 15. Twenty-four hours. Unlimited high-speed 5G, not a fixed GB cap. All Indian circles. MyJio, Jio.com, Reliance Retail, general trade, third-party recharge, and Jio's enterprise site. Compatible 5G phone. Jio 5G coverage. Hotspot allowed, with no separate cap printed. No talk-time claim. No monthly plan.

There is one disclosure worth knowing before you treat the copy as a lab test. Moneycontrol is part of the Network18 group, and the article itself says Network18 is controlled by Independent Media Trust, of which Reliance Industries is the sole beneficiary. Read the numbers as a published product listing, not as an independent speed test. Nobody in this piece clocked a download in Chennai or a hotspot call in Pune. "Truly unlimited" and "high-speed" are Jio's description as reported. Your street is the test.

If you only remember one thing

Buy it for a day you can already see, on a phone that already shows 5G, in a place where that 5G already works. Do not buy it as a new life. The pack is Rs 15 because it ends. Twenty-four hours after it starts, the unlimited tap closes, and your old plan is the one still talking.
