Ola Electric has announced that its flagship electric motorcycle, the Roadster X+, powered by the company’s indigenously developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack, has received official certification under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), 1989. The certification was granted by the International Centre for Automotive Technology (iCAT) in Manesar, clearing the way for deliveries to begin soon.
This achievement marks a key milestone for Ola Electric and India’s EV industry, as the Roadster X+ becomes the first electric motorcycle in the country to be approved with a fully in-house developed 4680 Bharat Cell battery pack.
The Roadster X+ is equipped with a 9.1 kWh battery, which Ola Electric says enables an impressive range of up to 500 km on a single charge — a significant step toward addressing range anxiety for long-distance and inter-city riders. Enhanced energy density and advanced thermal performance of the 4680 Bharat Cell technology are credited for this extended range.
An Ola Electric spokesperson described the certification as a major milestone in the company’s goal of building complete EV technology from cell development to vehicle deployment. With approval in hand, the company is expected to start deliveries of the Roadster X+ across India.
Additionally, Ola Electric plans to extend its 4680 Bharat Cell platform across its broader two-wheeler lineup — including both scooters and motorcycles — as part of its strategy to strengthen domestic EV technology and adoption.
