Broadcom Expects AI Chip Sales to Surpass $100 Billion by 2027
In a bold projection that underscores the accelerating AI hardware arms race, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan has announced that the company expects its AI-related chip revenue to exceed $100 billion by 2027. This forecast positions Broadcom as a dominant force in the AI semiconductor landscape, rivaling Nvidia in the race to power the world's most powerful artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The AI Chip Boom: Why Broadcom is Betting Big
Broadcom's confidence stems from its deeply entrenched relationships with the world's largest technology companies — often referred to as hyperscalers. These include Google, Meta, Apple, ByteDance, and Microsoft, all of whom are building massive AI data centers that require billions of dollars worth of custom silicon every year.
Unlike Nvidia, which sells general-purpose GPUs, Broadcom specializes in designing custom AI accelerators (XPUs) — chips built specifically to the requirements of individual customers. These custom chips are more efficient, more powerful for specific workloads, and increasingly preferred by hyperscalers looking to reduce dependence on any single chip supplier.
